KCEP is a philanthropic initiative launched in 2017 as the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program (K-CEP), the Clean Cooling Collaborative focuses on super-efficient refrigeration and space cooling equipment, climate-friendly refrigerants, passive cooling, and integrated solutions that cool people and the planet.
The Kigali Cooling Efficiency Programme (KCEP) project was approved for Nigeria and is aimed at assisting the country to adopt Energy Efficient, Climate-friendly, affordable Refrigeration and Air-conditioning technologies. The project is implemented by UNDP in coordination with the National Ozone Office and will complement the ongoing HCFC phase-out Programme by extending its reach and influence on energy efficiency.
Window 1 of the project is titled Integrating Energy Efficiency (EE) into the Refrigeration & Air conditioning (RAC) Servicing. The objective of Window 1 of the project is to address the needed improvement of Refrigeration & Air-conditioning service practices through training, enhanced curricula and new codes of practice.
While Window 2 titled “Transforming the Market of Inefficient RAC Equipment” will support the Government to achieve increase in market penetration of Energy Efficient RAC equipment. This will include a Rebate/Replacement/early retirement Programme for inefficient RAC equipment. The project will be consolidated into the National Cooling Plan for Nigeria Content.
Suffix to the KCEP project approval, an Inception workshop was held to acquaint key stakeholders with the Project’s activities, implementation strategies/ methodology and timeline. The workshop was aimed to set up the institutional framework for the implementation of the project’s objective and also consider ideas and relevant information to be provided by participants for successful implementation of the project.
